6-4 The Very First Prophecy

Download this episode (20 min)
Desiree from KPIC came out to see me yesterday. She lives in the Dixonville area. I gave her a tour of the church and then we went down to the Amphitheater. It really is beginning to look awesome! Every year it looks better and better! She loved the idea of outside worship. (of course every salesman is going to tell you that if they want to sell you their product!) Then we went in to discuss prices. A 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl only costs about $3 million bucks! But local TV is much cheaper! She quoted a price of about one Dollar for every 30 second commercial! What a price! That’s hard to beat! Desiree was very helpful and gave me all kinds of ideas… what do you think? Should Pine Grove Community Church advertise our Amphitheater on TV? Let me know.

Today's Scripture reading is 2 Samuel 3:22-39; Amos 7; Mark 12:1-27

Today’s thought comes from Genesis 3:14-15 So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall crush your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

What is the very first prophecy in the Bible? You guessed it, Genesis 3:15. Ever hear of the Law of First Mention? Very often, in the Bible, the first mention of a subject is key to understanding the rest of the matter. For example… the first mention of sin is in Genesis 3. In order to understand why we are all born sinners, you must understand the story of Adam and Eve. If you don’t know the origins of sin, you won’t understand why all of us are the way we are, and you surely won’t understand the solution to the problem. That’s why the secular world, pop psychology, self esteem ideology and the world’s religions each have such different solutions to the sin problem (if they call it sin at all) and why they don’t work! Understanding the problem of sin leads us to the solution to sin – Jesus Christ. In fact that is what the very first prophecy is about. The “Seed” of the woman will crush the serpents head, and the serpent will bruise his heel. Who is this “Seed?” Galatians 3:16 narrows down the search for the “Seed” to one people group of the world. The “Seed” will be one of Abraham’s descendents. The “Seed” is Jesus Christ! In fact, Jesus is called “The Last Adam” in Romans 5 and 1 Corinthians 15. Sin came though the first Adam, Salvation came through the second Adam. Condemnation came through the first, emancipation came through the second. Corruption came from Adam, transformation came from Christ. All of history has looked for the Messiah who would set us free from the power of sin and restore the relationship we originally had with God. Jesus crushed the serpents head! He fulfilled that prophecy on the cross. In Luke 10:18-20 Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven." And in John 12:31-32 “Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” Satan, not understanding the cross instigated it thinking that he would “kill God!” Instead all that old Serpent did was bruise His heel. The Resurrection must have come as quite a surprise for the shocked demonic army that watched the tomb that morning. But for us, it is the joyful fulfillment of the promise of Genesis 3:15.

Dear Father. Thank you for sending your Son to deal with my sin problem. Help me to cry out to the Savior for salvation. Deliver me, fill me with yourself and transform me into the image of Your dear Son! Thank you Jesus!

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain
