Today is September 26, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. This is your invitation to take one step forward every day in your relationship with Christ. We invite you to do something unbelievably radical. We invite you to deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Jesus

Sorry about the lack of a TWG podcast yesterday. I had to write a game report on a controversial soccer game, and by the time I was done, shock, it was time to go to work. It really was a good game, except for one coach who was off the charts. He wasn’t happy with much of anything during the game. And he let us know about it after the game. Anyway! Over the weekend, we had a wonderful Sunday service, done in memory of Irene Cagle. It was well attended and the power point and message of the gospel were well received. It was estimated that Irene had led some 2500 children to Christ in her lifetime! That is stunning! I have a few thousand to go to ever catch up with that! Last night we celebrated Ken’s birthday at our house. I put a picture of Shaphen, Ken & Evie on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

Today’s thought comes from 1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

It’s time for a checklist on your maturity. #1 on the list is faithful in marriage. The “husband of one wife” phrase in the Greek language is literally translated “one woman man.” There are several schools of thought on what this means, (which we won’t review) but let me suggest that this is more than just a statement about marital status. It is a commentary on the quality of your marriage. A one woman man is a man who has eyes for no one other than his wife. She is the only girl for him. He has control of his thought life and is not given to look or lust. In our world of not so modest television, easy internet pornography, and scantily clad fashions, this is a challenge to most men. It is a challenge to most Elders… and pastors. An unfortunately high percentage of men, Elders and Pastors included, regularly loose the battle with the lust monster. If you wish to measure up to maturity, men, you must step up your resolve and overcome this beast. But being faithful in marriage goes beyond the “negative” battle for the mind. A mature man’s married life is vibrant and healthy. He is in love with his bride! Sure she has faults as all women do, but he loves her anyway. His love is characterized by the following acts and sentiments: He cherishes her, he deeply cares for her, he shelters her from the storms of life. He is her rock. He makes great personal sacrifices to demonstrate his love to the girl of his dreams. His devotion is evident in his kind words, tender acts and deep admiration. Hey, this is what it takes to be an Elder… and this is what it takes to be mature! Sure relationships are difficult and complex. But if you want to be like Jesus, this is one absolutely essential fruit of the Spirit you must make part of your heart. #2 on the list is temperate. This word has a dual meaning. Ever heard of the temperance movement? It became a powerful force in American politics in the 1800s. At first it promoted drinking only in moderation but eventually it was influential in instituting the prohibition – a time when drinking was illegal. The first meaning of temperance is free from the immoderate use of alcohol. In a society where “wine” was the common beverage (usually mixed with water) it was important that a man be able to control his cravings and not “be drunk with wine!” And it still is important. The second meaning of temperate is “sober or vigilant.” A mark of maturity is that a man will be able to be calm and collected in spirit under pressure. He is able to control the spirit and make a dispassionate response to explosive situations. He is careful and measured in his words. Both meanings have the same root… don’t let either emotions or alcohol control you! You had better learn to control them. That takes some maturity now!

Dear Lord: Help me to love like you loved and to daily pursue purity as you are pure. I want to be just like Jesus in every way. And Lord help me to control my words, emotions and actions. Sometimes, admittedly that is extremely difficult. But with your help, I will love and I will be like you.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

Today is September 26, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. TWG is a complete turn of events; it is a 180 degree turn around. God is changing us and turning us around as a community. This is not business as usual, this is transforming, this is spiritual, this is essential.

Yesterday it was all about Irene’s memorial service. I finished up her power point show and spent considerable time setting up the sound and video in the new building. I didn’t get it finished and I am waiting for a snake from John before I put the final touches on the building. Shannon from Cagle Communications stopped in with some more pictures which I scanned in. After she left, I accidentally saved them in a low resolution format and had to have them run the pictures back out. By that time I was at home so John brought them to my house and I scanned them there. Then it was off to Bible Study where we talked about servanthood and stewardship. I put a picture of Jim, Phil and Bill on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out. They are doing the classic, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil pose!

Today’s thought comes from 1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

If you were to come up with a list of character qualities you would like to see in the next president of the United Sates, I’m curious… what would be on your list? It seems like every election some politician makes the statement, “my private life is none of your business…” that’s usually a prelude to discovery! We are about to find out that he’s a lying, cheating, pot smoking, womanizing, you name it, he failed at it, kind of guy. And more often than the candidate would like, his private failings lead to a public loss of votes. What if you were to come up with a list of character qualities that every mature person should exhibit? “The Maturity List.” What would be on that list? And would you make the grade? While 1 Timothy 3 has a list of character qualities for Christian leaders, it also could be called “the maturity list,” or the measure of a man. These are qualities every one of us should aspire to reach. And one of the points of Christian maturity is that you can’t be a good leader and live a bad life. Your private life is the testing grounds for your public life. If you can’t do it at home, please don’t export it into other people’s homes. If you can’t manage a state, you won’t run the country well. If you can’t manage a city, you can’t govern a state. If you can’t manage your home, what makes you think you can manage other people’s homes? My private life is essential to public service. The first characteristic of a good leader is that he is “blameless.” The word blameless simply means that no accusation against him is found true. In other words his life is above reproach. When scrutinized the criticism against him does not hold water. There are no hidden skeletons in his closet, no concealed moral failures that come to light and no grounds for the accusations brought against him. He may have lived like an immoral pagan in his BC days, or sowed his wild oats in his youth, but now that he’s a Christian man, he must have rectified every possible mistake, paid every outstanding debt, and should now have a track record that is quality checked and clear of every major blemish. Every other character quality is summarized by this one: A mature Christian lives right!

Dear Father, help me in my private life to think right, believe right and act right. Help me to control my passions, emotions and actions so that they are pleasing in your sight. I want my whole man to be wholly yours so that every aspect of my life is lived in the light.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Numbers 16:1-27; Psalm 93; 1 Corinthians 14:1-25

Today is September 24, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. We are doing something of eternal significance. We are redeeming the time. That is one of the basic premises of TWG. We believe that what we do every day is so important that we must do the important things each day. That is why we read the word every Day

Another day of fun and frolic is over. I worked most of the day on Irene’s Memorial Service, scanning pictures and looking for them. I came up with about 50 or 60 of them. Jim brought me a packet with more pictures I will have to scan today. I did a bit of cleaning in the new building and mopped the floor in preparation for Sunday. I also dumped a few loads of rock out back for the gabion’s. Dave stopped in and we talked and laughed a bit. Then there was Awana. We had 16 or 17 kids! It is growing. And I know that a few of them prayed to trust Jesus as Savior. I don’t know exactly how many. But we had a great time! Thanks to Marcia for all the hard work she does on it! And to Evie for the Phone calls she made to her kids! I put a picture of Dave with a monkey on his back on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

Today’s thought comes from 1 Timothy 3:1 This is a trustworthy saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.

Ok, ok! We are done picking on women. Now we are going to aim our bead at they guys and there is a lot to pick on there! Now that Paul has established the roles of men in the church – leaders and teachers, he’s going to explain their responsibilities. The first role men have to fill is that of a “bishop” otherwise known as the office of Elder. The word bishop literally means “an overseer.” An overseer is a watchman or one who looks after the affairs of the church. He goes where the people are to see how they are doing in order to care for them so that he can “feed the flock.” In today’s world there are several forms of church government. In some you have the pastor who is considered “the Elder”. In others, there is a hierarchy where the bishops or elders are over a group of churches. But a cursory reading of the New Testament yields the finding that the churches had elders (plural) and deacons (plural). That is the viewpoint we will be taking. There is a group of Elders that have the oversight, seek the best interest of the church, share the teaching and care for the spiritual needs of the people. The question is, “how does an Elder become an elder?” In our church, as with many others, after some scrutiny, they are nominated or appointed by a committee and then confirmed or voted upon by the entire church. It is one thing to accept responsibility that someone else has laid upon you, but it quite another to realize that it is a Divine Calling from God! Every Elder ought to ask himself, “Do you think you are moved by the Holy Spirit to take this office?” If God has moved you to step up to leadership, there will be a burning desire in your heart to do it. A real call to the ministry will be an intense, passionate, all consuming longing to seek out God’s will and follow it. Serving God in the ministry of the local church is the highest calling any of us could possibly aspire to. It is a good work, an honorable undertaking, a heroic act, a magnificent achievement, a precious gift, a respected calling, a beautiful thing and more useful and noble than president, CEO, or any other occupation one could ever hope to achieve. God grant that the fire of ministry would flare up in the hearts of many, many more of us!

Dear Holy Spirit. Move in my heart to move me to service. I want to become all you want for me. Please plant in my heart the burning desire to live for Jesus and follow Him. I want your passion. I want your calling. I long to serve you. Jesus make it so.

He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Today is September 24, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. You are part of a devotional community where we put Christ first and our commitment is to spend time with each other and Time with God every day.

Yesterday was a day of phone calls… I think everyone from Douglas County tried calling at the same time! And Phil stopped in with a few doors for Bill to check out. And Sonja stopped by to say something I couldn’t make out while I was on the phone. She was in a hurry. Jayn came to church to work on the flowers. She keeps the place in tip top shape. I worked on Irene’s Memorial service a bit. I picked out some songs and looked through a stack of pictures to find some of her to scan in. Later I took off to ref a soccer game. Boys Varsity. It was fun except that sometimes the coaches were a bit immature. I was on the verge of giving a few cards out because they did their best to be irritating – they call it dissent. And then, suddenly, they just stopped. Ahh. Peace! After that Susan and I glued the tub surround in place and hooked up the faucet. I put a picture of the dog usurping my place next to sleeping Susan on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

Today’s thought comes from 2 Timothy 2:11-15 Let a woman learn In silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

When are you going to quit picking on those poor women? I don’t know. It’s kind of fun receiving death threats in my in box. And today I get the honor of understanding and interpreting one of the most difficult statements in the Bible. How a woman gets saved! This verse can be misconstrued to read that in order for a woman to get to heaven she must have lots of babies and then be a very good mom and live a very good life. I guess that leaves all you single women out. No heaven for the barren! No babies, no afterlife. Sorry. I’m sure that most of you know that what I have just said borders on the ridiculous. There is only one way of salvation for men and woman… faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That’s it. So, now let’s get down to the serious work of understanding this verse. The first thing we need to do is identify the “she” and “they” in verse 15. “She will be saved” and “they continue in faith.” She (singular) refers to Eve, and they (plural) are you ladies. Let’s talk about she. She ate the forbidden fruit and because of that she was cursed. In Genesis 2:16 God said to the woman: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you." Because of our fallen world a woman gets to deal with two curses #2 a dominant husband “he will rule over you” and #1 pain in childbirth. I’m told that it is a little painful (I’m joking already! So it’s a LOT painful!) With a clever play on words, Paul reminded them that the woman’s pain is a woman’s blessing! She was cursed in childbirth, and she was blessed in childbirth. So how was Eve blessed in childbirth? While “she” refers to Eve and the reverse of the curse, childbearing refers to one of her great, great, great, GREAT grandchildren. How do I know that? Because in the Greek it is not just “childbearing” as it is in the English, it is “THE childbearing.” It is talking about a specific child. “THE CHILD” himself, the Messiah was to come from a woman. So, we might read this verse, “Eve will be saved by the bearing of THE child, the Messiah, one of her great grandchildren, and so will you as you continue in faith, love, holiness and self control (as evidences of your salvation). Hey, did you know everyone has always been saved by faith in Jesus Christ? Even Adam and Eve? Yes, they looked forward to the Messiah in faith, and we look back at Him in faith. Because of that amazing event ladies and gentlemen, let us continue to exhibit the fruit of the spirit, faith, hope, love, self-control… holiness. Once again God shows how he takes a curse and turns it into a blessing!

Dear Lord, thank you for your son Jesus and his amazing sacrifice for me. I stand amazed at how much you love me and how much you love women! You gave them the greatest blessing – from the seed of the woman would come the Messiah. And now we are all blessed beyond measure!

He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Ok… now I’m getting cold. It’s almost time to turn on the heat. I’ve been curled up inside my blanket this morning until now… anyone already using heat? I’d like to know who the toughest folks in the northwest are… who’s going to hold off the longest before turning up their thermostat. Yesterday Susan and I spent the day painting and working on the bath surround. I textured and painted. The neighbor Steve came up to claim the lawnmower… the ex-renter’s son nick had already said it was his. A fine pickle I’m in… who really owns it? I told them both I can’t release any property for 30 days without renter consent. Then I ran off to Tri City to do a soccer game. It was a nice slow uneventful game. We still gave out two yellow cards. But there was certainly nothing out of the ordinary. I put a picture of Grandson Isaiah lying on our couch on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com.

Another happy day talking about the biblical role of women. Isn’t this fun! I know that to many folks the role of women is a sore subject… there’s fire in them there eyes! We really are not trying to upset you, we just want to know the way things are as God made them. Paul gave two reasons for why a woman is as she is in the church. #1. Adam was made first. Some argue that this is no reason since the animals were really made first! True… but now were talking apples and oranges, or should I say Zebras and men. And the trees were made before beavers too! Maybe that’s why they have such a thing for cutting them down. This is what we call in logic a “red herring,” or false argument. Have you ever seen a red herring? That’s because they don’t exist! Animals are not part of the comparison equation, if they were, then you could make a monkey out of me. Anthropologically, as far as the battle of the sexes goes, dealing with origin, men were made first and God made the woman from the man. This doesn’t have anything to do with ability, talent or intelligence, just origin. “Hey! I got here first! This is my place!” You get the idea. #2 Eve was deceived and succumbed to the temptation to eat the pomegranate – (I know you think it was an apple, but no one really knows! So my guess is as good as yours.) When you read the Genesis 3 passage you realize that A) Eve really was fooled, and B) Adam went right along with her even though he knew it was wrong. I’m not sure which one was worse! Why didn’t he stop her? Hey when a woman is shopping, you don’t want to get in the way! Or, as someone suggested, he loved his wife so much that once she ate, his choice was to join her sin or, since he knew the consequences, to say goodbye to the love of his life forever. He chose to eat. Since Eve was deceived this is reason #2 for the role of women. I hate that! You get ONE little answer wrong on the test and they hold it against you forever! So here we are. Ever since the beginning, some men have been apologizing and trying to get out of their God given role of leadership because they don’t want the responsibility. And some women have been doing their best to try to take that responsibility because (and we have a whole litany of reasons we could list here) their man is incompetent, they are smarter, they feel intimidated, they have their rights… you name it, it has already been used at least a million times! Hey there are God given roles for men and women, and it is high time that both men and women stepped up to the plate and decided that no matter how difficult or uncomfortable these roles make us feel, they are part of the quiz God is giving us now. Adam and Eve failed. Now it’s your turn to take the test!

Dear Father. Please help me to embrace the way I was made and quit making excuses for obeying you. I want to take responsibility for the person I am. I did not choose this, but I do choose to follow you. I choose to be the best I can be with what you have given me. Thanks for making me – me.

And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Today is September 22, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. Together we are strong. As we walk though the word together we help each other grow.

Time marches on inevitably. It is just amazing to me how fast the week has gone. One is over, another is beginning. Saturday I worked steadily on putting up sheetrock and getting my shower back in place. Today I will mud it and soon I’ll have the surround up. Later in the evening I went to music practice with John & Colleen and then Kyle, Marcia, Brad, Karen and Sonja. A great time… but boy was I tired of standing. Sunday I preached a message on the need to take care of yourself. How often we don’t put the kind of care into our thoughts, emotions and health as we should. Then Sunday night, John Colleen and I visited with Pete and Lisa! We had a great time. They both love the Lord and were thrilled to have us over. They’d like prayer for several issues they are going through. You can check out the conversation at honest-answers.blogspot.com. I put a picture of Pete and Lisa posing with John and Colleen on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com.

OK, so what is a woman’s role in the church anyway? “Let a woman learn...” For the first century that is an amazing statement! Paul was modeling Jesus who challenged the first century stereotype that a woman did not belong in the classroom (Mary and Martha Luke 10:38-42). Where Jewish custom often excluded women from the learning process, Paul commanded that they should be allowed to learn. This is a command. Rather than being restrictive (by our standards) this was liberating (first century standards). Learning meant that they could become disciples (learners)! And in the first century, knowledge of the faith was the highest of privileges in society because theology was the queen of the sciences! And in the church, a woman was allowed to learn everything that a man could learn! That was a huge step up in a male dominated society where a woman’s formal education usually stopped at an early age so she could be educated in the ways of the household by other women.

Much has been written from every conceivable viewpoint about a woman’s role. I want to suggest that the context has to do with the “church assembly,” when "the whole church has come together into one place." It is about teaching in public and the principle of leadership in the church. During the church service, a woman’s role is a learner rather than teacher, yet we encourage women to teach at other times – Sunday school, home, evangelism etc. And we encourage women to participate in public in song, testimony and prayer. In public, a learner is generally quiet while the teacher is loquacious. In our church services lectures are prominent and dialogue is rare… as a practical consideration. If we had people speaking up and asking questions whenever they wanted during our services it could become cumbersome, it could detract from the focus of the service, the questioner could even upstage the teacher as sometimes happens during Sunday School. So, in summary, Paul is saying, “Women, take a step up to your God given privileged place as learner and disciple, but don’t go beyond your role and step into the God given role for a man as teacher in the church service and leader in the church.” Maybe you’re struggling with your role… God made us, and life is but the testing grounds for how we deal with the circumstances we find ourselves in. To be successful in God’s world it is not so much that we rise to the top, but that we put Him on top.

Dear Lord. I want to embrace my role in life as part of your plan for me. I want to enjoy who I am and learn to relate to you and to others out of the overflow of wonder and acceptance of me and my individuality. Thanks for making me, me. I want to bless others because of who I am.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled

Numbers 13; Psalm 89:1-26; 1 Corinthians 9

Today is September 19, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. TWG is a complete turn of events; it is a 180 degree turn around. God is changing us and turning us around as a community. This is not business as usual, this is transforming, this is spiritual, this is essential.

Sorry about the TWG for yesterday… I just ran out of time. So here’s a log of my life if you really want to know what’s cookin’

Wednesday - Most of my day, yesterday was taken up with Irene’s memorial service. Susan and I left Roseburg at 9 am with Jim to go to Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene. The service was a small, intimate group. Half the group was family, the other half were Jim’s employees and friends. We left with one profound impression, Irene loved Jesus and loved to talk about him to anyone who would listen. That’s what is important. We went to lunch afterwards and then it was back home where I worked on power point a bit and called the Awana kids. We picked them up and two of them trusted Christ last night at club! One of them Sam, is old enough to be a leader. I posted our conversation on the http://honest-answers.blogspot.com blog. Also put a picture of Sam on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

Thursday – I just ran out of time yesterday for TWG. I must be getting OLD or something because it seems like it’s taking longer to get everything done. I am sure I used to do it faster. I ran to Lowes in the morning to buy a tub surround. Pray for me! I still have to install it! When I got to work, Alyssa stopped in to pick up her marriage certificate, she’s enjoying married life J Then Debra stopped in with two of her toddlers to talk. And her daughter had to use the potty… right there in the middle of my office! Poor Debra was so embarrassed (If she knew I was sharing this, she’d be even more embarrassed!) I did the bulletin, worked on my message, and worked on power point for Sunday. Jim and Jim jr stopped in to take a tour of the building and grounds. Then I ran off to a soccer game in Sutherlin. ¾ through the game the goalie watched a ball sail over her head into the goal and she fell down backwards and hurt her neck and back. They had to haul her off in a stretcher! That made me late for Bible Study at Zimmerman’s! But I got there, barely and we had a great study. I think that’s enough for one day, don’t you!

“Oh great! Some of the worst “woman hater” verses in the whole Bible! Paul must have really been prejudiced against women! After all he wasn’t married and he thought men would be better off that way. Now he’s telling us that women should be quiet and subservient because they are inferior.” Time out! Not true! Paul was not a woman hater. And that is certainly not what is meant here. Paul worked with many women in the ministry and honored them as well. He never indicated anywhere that women were inferior to men. Paul was simply explaining the God given role of a woman in the church. “Are you sure? Maybe this was simply cultural and things have changed as we have become more and more civilized.” That’s a thought, except that Paul clearly relates a man and woman’s role back to creation. God created us with built-in differences. How about if we try to understand what in the world God has in mind for women in Verses 11-12. Let’s reverse the ideas a bit and talk about men. Men were created be in a leadership role for one interesting reason; God created the man first! That’s about it. Not because man is superior and a woman inferior, but because of the order of creation. God created the man to have some built in capacity for headship and he created a woman to fit in naturally as a helpmeet. He is supposed to take the lead, she is built to follow. That isn’t to say that some men are horrible leaders (they are) or that some women don’t have amazing leadership skills and remarkable intelligence (they do). The created order isn’t about superiority or inferiority, it’s about roles; the way God made us. Roles are like circumstances: we don’t have any control over them, they just happen. I didn’t ask to be born in the USA, with average height and brown hair and crossed eyes, in poverty or riches… nor did I ask to be born as a man or a woman. You have to play the hand you are dealt. Life is not primarily about becoming richer, or faster, or glamorous, or about asserting our “rights” (although some of these things don’t sound too bad to me!). Life is about learning to relate to God regardless of our circumstances. God put you on this earth in a specific role to draw you to himself in obedience. You can be a rebel, or you can embrace your role and shine! Start living like you were created to be and you will find an unending source of wonder and joy in discovering God’s creative design for YOU.

Dear Lord. I want to embrace my role in life as part of your plan for me. I want to enjoy who I am and learn to relate to you and to others out of the overflow of wonder and acceptance of me and my individuality. Thanks for making me, me. I want to bless others because of who I am.

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Numbers 13; Psalm 89:1-26; 1 Corinthians 9

Today is September 17, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. You are part of a devotional community where we put Christ first and our commitment is to spend time with each other and Time with God every day.

Every day brings new surprises! I was going about my daily duties when Carl came to church and asked for my help… he had a new Video Projector that was just donated for our new building! Wow! Pretty neat! While we were testing it out, in walked Jim to talk about today’s memorial service for Irene. I’ll be heading to Eugene for most of the day. I wasn’t sure what Jim had in mind for the graveside, or if there was going to be a service up there until yesterday. So I changed gears for the rest of the day to focus on my change of schedule. After work I ran to Winston to ref a soccer game – it was a bit warm, I got a bit worn out. I woke up about 4 this morning with a cramp. Fortunately Susan heard me wining and pulled my foot back… that fixed it. After that I wentt o men’s meeting and then to my office until about 9:30 to prepare for today. I put a picture of Barb on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out. She looks so nice in fake glasses.

Today’s thought comes from 2 Timothy 2:9-10 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

Congratulations! You are the winner of a free shopping spree! You will receive a free trip to God’s Clothing shop, where you will be treated to a lifetime supply of Inner Wear for the New Woman! These fine clothes were tailored by the King of Fashion himself, the Holy Spirit! And what’s more they will never wear out, they never go out of style and they are guaranteed to fit! You will love your new wardrobe! (Nice hype huh! But it’s all true!) So what’s first on the runway? It’s a beautiful model wearing the best of “good deeds.” There is no better way to attract friends and loved ones to the Lord than with this outfit. This practical attire is perfect for giving a cup of cold water in Jesus name, or for visiting the sick, those in prison or for helping widows. When people see your good deeds, they will praise your Father who is in Heaven. Christians should be known for wearing this on their sleeves! And if not, roll them up and get to work serving others. Your love cannot be missed. Next on the runway is a beautiful model on her knees! That’s because she’s dressed for worship. This stunning dress is made from the finest praise, and is surrounded by prayer. It is not only beautiful, but it is appropriate wear for every woman. Whether you are standing in church with your hands lifted in praise or kneeling beside your bed with eyes closed in prayer, every woman looks better dressed for worship. Now this is how a woman ought to dress! If you profess to be a Christian, you must have this wardrobe. It’s one thing to say you believe, it’s another to really put it into practice. And one way you can tell is how you dress. If the emphasis is on the outer appearance, perhaps it is because your beauty is only skin deep. But if you want beauty to go all the way to the inner woman, you need to begin caring for your spiritual self. Start serving others and spend lots of time with God. These are the things that really make you look beautiful.

Dear Father. I want to be clothed in good deeds. Help me to serve others and by so doing, serve you. I also want to worship you. I know that my inner man is more important than my outer man. I want to have my heart to God and hand to man, and express the beauty that comes from knowing you.

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Today is September 16, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. This is your invitation to take one step forward every day in your relationship with Christ. We invite you to do something unbelievably radical. We invite you to deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Jesus

I’m a bit tired this morning. After working all day tearing out a bathtub and then making an attempt to put another one in… my bod is a bit peeked. Susan was worn out last night as well. I guess after 50 you slow down a little bit. I also refereed a soccer game between Glide boys and Umpqua Valley Christian. UVC won handily, but it was a fun, competitive game. Then last night I ran out to Gary’s to drop of some netting. I put a picture of the wedding cake from the wedding I did on Saturday on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out. It is a story book wedding cake! Pretty neat. Lynda is next to it pouring sparkling cider.

Today’s thought comes from 2 Timothy 2:9-10 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

How not to dress… you’ve seen the headlines: the ten worst dressed celebs of the year. They wear these garish looking outfits that look like Dracula was the designer. Then they show the ten best dressed stars of the year… and some of them are dazzling. Their hair is beautiful; they have thousands of dollars of jewelry on. And when they tell you the price tag for just their handbag, you faint! Today’s tip comes from a time and place when church was a fashion show. Remember that? Perhaps it still is where you go. People dress in their Sunday best, and it’s all about status and society. Maybe they don’t do that anymore, but there still are times and places and people who are into their clothes. A lot of ladies are into their clothes. We’ve got a watch and a handbag and shoes and jewelry to match every outfit. Someone told me that his wife had an outfit for every occasion and many of them that she only wore one time! Why is that? It’s because some of you ladies love to shop! Some of you ladies work and live to shop. Every trip to the mall is an opportunity to buy another pair of shoes or other accessory. My guess is that if we were to do a “closet check,” we’d find stuff in there even you forgot about! Now don’t get me wrong, the Bible is not against nice clothes. In Proverbs 31, the godly woman is praised because she is clothed in fine linen and purple (22). But a few verses later she is also praised because Strength and honor are her clothing (25). The 2 Timothy 2 9 tip of the day is that your outer attire is not to be your focus and emphasis, but instead your inner attire is what is more important. It isn’t that fashion is bad, it’s that it pales in comparison to what is inside the heart. Let me make a few suggestions about an out of balance focus. If you buy fashionable clothes and accessories that you only wear once or twice in a lifetime, you are probably spending God’s money foolishly. Why not make a sober appraisal of what is really important in life and eternity and invest your next shopping trip in God’s kingdom instead. How about supporting a child in a third world country through Compassion International, who’s entire wardrobe consists of the rags he or she has on right now! If you spend more time browsing through fashion catalogs and more time thinking about what you would like to wear than you should, perhaps you ought to reallocate some of that time on your knees praying for a gentle and quiet spirit, or some more time reading God’s word or listening to praise and worship music. A little more time doing “interior decorating” would make you look way more beautiful in the long run than all the fashion in the world.

Dear Lord, help me to focus on the inner man more than the outer man. Help me to put on the fruit of the spirit so that I will have the inner glow of a person who is filled with your love, joy and peace. Help me to find balance in life so that I wisely invest my time and money in what counts for your kingdom.

It is God who works in you both to will and to do his good pleasure

Today is September 15, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. Together we are strong. As we walk though the word together we help each other grow.

Another Lord’s Day is past. And another weekend. Saturday I ran out to watch Dakota play some football. He’s the little guy of the team. Some of the other players look like giants compared to him. Then I did a wedding – it turned out very nice! And later I went to music practice… a full day. Sunday we began our winter hours again. Love that early service. I taught on the need to grow up! Then I taught High School Sunday School. We talked about finding God’s power in our every day lives. I went to lunch with Brad and Karen, and then slept the afternoon away. Later we had an Elder/Deacon meeting… a good time. And then John and I went visiting. We talked to Craig about his need for Christ. You can find that conversation at http://honest-answers.blogspot.com. I put a picture of Dakota in his football uniform on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

Today’s thought comes from 2 Timothy 2:9-10 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

OK, today we change themes… let’s talk about women. God made women to be attractive to men and it worked! The world around, men think women are beautiful. Women on the other hand are not so sure. Most women I know don’t think that they are all that beautiful. Even the ladies who win Miss America contests have doubts about their beauty. But most women want to be found attractive. Girls grow up with the hope that some knight in shining armor will notice them, sweep them off their feet and they will live happily ever after. So, in order to attract their imaginary hero, they often dress and groom themselves to be as stunning as possible. And hence the problem: sometimes they go overboard! Too much cleavage! Too much skin! Clothes that leave little to the imagination! Or the bathing suit that covers only little squares and triangles on the body. And what happens to the male of the species? He goes ape! “Whoa! Babe!” The hormones are in overdrive! If you don’t think it’s true, then ask yourself why pornography is the #1 website on the internet? Guys like to look! And that’s not all. Now granted, men should control their urges. True. But the Christian woman should also be careful not to be a temptress. The rule of thumb here is that women should dress modestly. So what in the world is modesty? My idea may be different than yours. The idea in the Greek Language is that a woman’s apparel should be chosen “to put or keep down one who is roused or incensed, to repress, restrain, appease, quiet.” That’s a direct quote from the Greek Lexicon! I didn’t make that up! That’s what God meant when he had Paul write it down. Remind the women to dress in such a way that they don’t arouse the guys! A well arranged outfit will do just that. The second rule of thumb is that they should dress decently. Again, let me quote the Greek Lexicon “a sense of honor, modesty, bashfulness, reverence, regard for others.” Decency means to honor your body so you dress bashfully, rather than brazenly. Your clothes don’t yell, “come and get me!” You do this because you have reverence for God and respect for the way men are made. The third rule of thumb is that you show “propriety.” Simply put propriety is the use of self control to curb your own impulses and desires. Maybe a woman wants to attract a man… careful now! Flashing your flesh around just might be the wrong way to find a guy. You want someone who focuses on who you are, not so much on whether you have “ooo la la!” So ladies, a hint for you today from Mr. Manners: Dress in such a way to bring glory to God. Real men want women who are more than just cute, they want some smart too!

Dear Father, help me to dress in such a way that my styles don’t become the focal point, but instead my joy and love for you points people to the Savior. I know the greatest value for you is a beautiful mind, spirit and heart. Help me to dress them up!

Today is September 12, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. TWG is a complete turn of events; it is a 180 degree turn around. God is changing us and turning us around as a community. This is not business as usual, this is transforming, this is spiritual, this is essential.

Yesterday was another busy day in the life of Dennis. I worked all day at trying to get caught up… all to no avail. I worked on Sunday’s message and the Morning Service. Carl stopped in to set up for Ladies Bible Study, we had an encouraging chat about AWANA. Susan is still recovering from oral surgery, but doing better. Ken stopped in for a moment to tell me about Dakota’s upcoming football season. After work I ran to Glide to ref a soccer game, and then I rushed to Doris’s house for our growth group potluck. On the way there I fielded a phone message from Jim that Irene had passed away unexpectedly. I had just had lunch with Jim the other day and met with Irene and they both expected her to come home today. I ran over to spend an hour or two with Jim before running home. He can use your prayers. I put a picture of Jim on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

This week’s theme verse is 3 John 1:2-4 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

What is the source of prosperity? We know that ultimately God is in control, and all things come from Him. He gives and takes away as it pleases Him. But is there some principle of life that will bring joy, health and prosperity in all areas of life? Yes there is… generally speaking. In life there are no guarantees. From a human perspective, “The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all” says Ecclesiastes 9:11. But there is a general principle, that when applied works like the rising sun every new day. Sure there are some shadows that darken our lives as we walk through life, and sure there are clouds that obscure the sunlight, and sure there are seasons in which it seems the sun doesn’t shine at all, but no question about it, the sun will surely rise tomorrow. That principle marches on regardless of cloudy skies, shadow or winter is almighty TRUTH. Truth brings soul prosperity in all things. Truth equals Reality. If you line your life up with the truth you will be setting yourself up for success. A simple example from the physical world is sufficient: The truth is that gravity makes objects fall towards the earth. A wise man learns this at a young age and lines his life up with the truth. But some believe in a brave new world. Take a man who thinks he can defy the laws of gravity. He chooses the empire state building and jumps. No parachute, no jet packs, no bungee chord… truth wins every time! The same holds true in all of life. Truth always triumphs in the end. Not all consequences are as quick as the sudden stop at the bottom of the empire state building, but all are as sure. Success comes from two aspects of the truth. #1 The truth must be in you. In other words, you must know the truth and internalize it. It must be studied, understood and believed. This will change you from the inside out, little by little. It will change your thought patterns and actually transform your mind. #2 The truth must be lived. You must walk in truth. In order to be successful, you just can’t say you believe it, lip service, you must act upon it. It must be applied to life. God’s Word is not just nice platitudes that we quote in classical English language for the beauty of it’s prose and poetry. It is TRUTH that demands to be applied. Truth, when applied, will slowly, but surely bring health, soul prosperity and success to all of life. Uphold the truth and the truth will hold you up.

Dear Lord Jesus. I know that you are the way, the truth and the life. I want you in my life! I want to live my life by the principles in your word. I want to get the living word into my heart and into my life so that I can become just like you.

Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.

Today is September 11, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. We are doing something of eternal significance. We are redeeming the time. That is one of the basic premises of TWG. We believe that what we do every day is so important that we must do the important things each day. That is why we read the word every Day

This week is just whirling by. I worked on Sunday’s Sermon a bit, did some power point, got ready for Awana and who knows what else. I also went to lunch with Jim. He’s got lots of things to think about with Irene in the hospital. A half a dozen folks were in the kitchen canning all day. I left early to see if I could pick up some kids for Awana. The first group of kids dragged their feet. They hadn’t eaten so the mom was going to keep them home. I offered to stop at A&W and 4 kids came with me! Susan picked up two more kids! We had a good group of about a dozen! We are on our way. I put a picture of Mike on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out. I ran into him at the hospital.

What brings you joy? What makes you smile and warms your heart? A little exhilaration is a good thing… some people love a good adrenaline rush (it scares other people). There are those who get a thrill out of extreme sports. The fun of downhill skiing, skydiving or racing brings a grin to these daredevils. On the other hand, a warm mug of steaming friendship and a nice quiet café isn’t too bad either. Some people beam inside when they meet with good friends, family and pasta. My neighbors love to cheer at sporting events. Doing the wave with 25,000 rabid fans makes them feel pretty good. Me, I love it when my children make good choices. It jazzes me up to see them growing up, smiling, thinking mature thoughts and becoming like Jesus. It brings great satisfaction. That was one thing that got the Apostle John excited. When he heard how his “children” in the faith were sticking to the truth He rejoiced greatly. In fact there was no greater joy for him than that. Joy is one thing we could use more of. In a recent rash of studies, it was found that optimistic people are healthier, live longer, get sick less… and the numbers are impressive: depending on the study optimists are 30% to 50% better off then their pessimistic counter parts in heart disease, cancer, blood pressure, and mortality rates. (http://health.msn.com/health-topics/depression/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100205262&page=1) When the insurance companies get a hold of this, look for personality tests to determine rates! Of course they could have just asked Solomon. He told us years ago that “laughter is the best medicine” (Proverbs 17:22). If you want to do something good for your soul, be joyful. In fact I command you to smile and cheer. Can you really do that? Be joyful on command? Paul thought so. He demanded, “Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4). I just checked, and yes, it is in the imperative mood. That means it is a command! Hey you, get happy! But this isn’t your ordinary, run of the mill, rah, rah, happiness. This is targeted joy. Rejoice IN THE LORD. All other joys are transitory, passing, vaporous; like grass they spring up and wither. But the Lord is a Rock. Eternal joy is everlasting. So let me make a suggestion. If you struggle with the blahs… you know, same old morning, same old job, same dirty dishes, same grocery store, same old, same old… then you need to add a little adventure to your life. The adventure of rejoicing in every circumstance because God is here and God is in control. Love him in the morning when you see the sun arising! Thank him for the job because he’s given you a mission in life. Do the wave just before you clean the dishes because God is the great provider of that good food on those messy plates. And just keep-a-going! Praise him for every same old thing. Let me say it again, Rejoice in the Lord always… good health, long life, optimism, hope and beyond.

Dear Father. In your presence is fullness of joy. I know that I need to change my attitude so that I can experience all you have for me. I will choose hope. I will choose to rejoice even when circumstances try to get me down. Your way, and your truth and eternal life is what really jazzes me up!

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

Yesterday was another whirlwind of activity that left me wondering if I ever caught my tail! I was late in getting started, but when I got to church I began working on Awana and then on Power Point for Sunday. Then I changed focus and updated our phone list for Awana. Marcia, Helen, Carl, Mary & Pearl were canning. At lunch time I ran to the hospital to visit Irene. She has a bit of trouble focusing on anything for very long, but was smiling as usual. I met Mike B on the way out of the parking lot. His mother was in Mercy as well… they just transferred her back to Rosehaven. After a bit of work, I ran to Glide to Ref a girls varsity soccer match. Glide won handily. I put a picture of Rachael and Kate on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out. This was just after the soccer game. Then I ran to church for our men’s meeting. And the day ended! Whew!

Let’s talk about soul food! Amen brother. Psychedelic even! Maybe even organic. No, we are not talking 70s inner city cuisine, we are talking about food for the soul to make your soul prosper. So what is the soul? The soul is the place of your feelings, desires, affections and aversions. It is the emotional you. It is from the soul that your anger boils, your lust rears its ugly head, your fuzzy feelings of love bubble up, your happy excited laughter erupts and your depression smolders. It is the soul which affects your moods and your outlook on life. The soul is “fallen” and infected by sin. That means that we have a tendency to have mood swings to the dark side of life. This infection by sin drags us into depression, anger, bitterness, hatred, lust, greed and on and on and on. Every human being on earth needs to have a living encounter with Jesus Christ which results in a radical transformation into a New Creation. When we trust Jesus, we receive a “New Nature.” This nature or spirit living inside us now begins to affect our soul and cure the infection of sin. But we absolutely must cooperate with the Spirit of God in order for our soul to be made whole. If soul prosperity is your goal, and it should be, you need to let your spirit feed your soul with the manna from heaven. There is no more important component of the human than his soul. If you care for the soul, you will feel better, you will be happier, you will be healthier, and in all things you will be prosper. We feed the soul by how we think, by what we believe, and by our worship. Our thoughts have a dramatic affect on our feelings. To change your state of mind, you must change what your mind is thinking about. Stop fixating on your problems and stop obsessing over the dark side of life. Instead fix your mind on things that are above. Think eternal thoughts. “Think happy thoughts.” Let scripture run through your mind all day long. Believe it, and trust that God is in complete control and that he loves you and really does know what is best for you. And finally, worship: “You shall love the Lord with all your heart, and all your soul….” Worship with your mind, and worship with your emotions. Love is an intense word, when coupled with soul means that you should be moved to tears, joy and shouting in your personal daily worship. LOVE HIM INTENSLY. That love will strengthen your soul and keep you stable and prosperous. Soul Prosperity.

Dear Lord. I choose to love you with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. I want to use my emotions to praise you. I will cry to you when I am in need. I will shout for joy because you are my strength. I will meditate deeply on your awesome power. I ask that you will bring health to my soul as I think on you.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul and all your mind and all your strength. This is the greatest commandment

Today is September 9, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. This is your invitation to take one step forward every day in your relationship with Christ. We invite you to do something unbelievably radical. We invite you to deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Jesus

Yesterday I ran Susan to the dentist for oral surgery. She was out for an hour and a half. She slept off and on the rest of the day. I ran and helped a renter move a trailer load of stuff from storage to his place. While we were driving, we began to talk about the brevity of life and I asked him if he was going to heaven… he said, “yes.” So I asked, “If God were to ask you why should I let you into my heaven, what would you answer.” He was stumped. We were almost at the storage place, so he said, “That’s a tough one. I’ll give you an answer next time I see you!” Pray for Gary. Later in the day I worked out with Kyle & Marcia, and then I came home and went to a few neighbors and invited their kids to Awana. Pray that they’ll come. I put a picture of Susan holding a Goat on vacation on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com.

I pray that you will be in health. That is one prayer request that Christians pass around more than any other. “Lord, please heal aunt K or Bob B.” We are constantly praying about one sick person or the other. This world is full of sickness and disease. We succumb to all kinds of physical ailments especially as we grow older. Sometimes God heals us and sometimes he does not. Sooner or later all of us will fall to a fatal blow and meet our maker. But while we are on earth (and I think I speak for all of us) we want to be as healthy as possible! And when we are sick God can and does often heal. He has the power. When it suits his purposes he removes cancer and any physical infirmity he wishes. The root of this word “in health” means “to be made whole.” 13 times it is used of Jesus healing someone and “making them whole” or well. He did it to the man with the withered hand, the lame man, the woman with the flow of blood and the paralytic. Jesus heals and restores. But this word means so much more than just “get well.” The words “in health” are talking about a soundness of mind and body. In fact this word is used to describe a person who is “sound in faith,” and one who is “sound in doctrine,” and those who use “sound or wholesome words.” Being well, is more than an absence of sickness. Good health requires the supplement called “sound thinking.” Many physicians now claim that over half of all illnesses fall into a category of psychosomatic and that 90% of all visits to the doctors office are related to stress. Some of our health problems are 100% linked to our mental state! And our mental state affects 100% of our illnesses to either bring quicker healing or to slow the healing process down. We cannot overstate the importance of our frame of mind to good or bad health. So how do you get sound thinking? You grow into it. As you read, meditate on and study God’s Word, it begins to transform the way you think. Soon you are thinking the way God thinks… and God has perfect health! His thoughts contain no error. Let your mind be filled with thoughts of the Divine and you will live a healthier, happier, hope filled life. This life transforming power has been known to overcome depression, neutralize ADHD, soar over stress, calm out of control emotions, clear up mental disorders and bring peace and prosperity to troubled and emotionally crippled individuals. Not to mention the neck pains, back pain, ulcers or frequent colds and flu that it clears up! Do you want to be “in health?” Then begin a scripture reading and memory program, begin to apply God’s truth and let God’s word transform your way of thinking all day long. Prescription: Take one verse and call me in the morning!

Dear Great Physician. Heal me I pray. Bring soundness to my mind, heart, soul and body. I cast all my cares on you. I choose to think your thoughts. I want my mind to be transformed and my life to be filled with hope, health and happiness. Thanks for your death on the cross that made all this possible!

All things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose

Numbers 7: 30-59; Psalm 82; 1 Corinthians 2

Today is September 8, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. Together we are strong. As we walk though the word together we help each other grow.

Hey, in case you missed me, I took a few vacation days. For the first time in a year and a half, I didn’t do Time With God. But, here I am, back again. I went with Dave and Barb, as well as son Zac and Laurel to the coast. We camped at a place called Bullards Beach. We had a good old time, especially since it was the first time I’d met Laurel, and Zac was really interested in making a good first impression! Well, I’ll have to tell you… we loved her! Saturday we went to the West Coast Game Petting Farm… that was an experience! Lot’s of animals wandering around and we got to pet a baby lion. Sunday we wandered around and then went to the beach. We spent a bit of time fellowshipping and we prayed with Dave and Barb before we left. It was a good time. I put a picture of Zac and Laurel on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com.

I pray that you may prosper in all things. Wouldn’t you like to be prosperous? How much would it take for you to consider yourself a prosperous individual? A million dollars? More? Maybe being a millionaire is too passé anymore. According to the latest research, 1 out of every 11 people in the United States are worth over a million dollars! And there are 10 million millionaires in the world today! Rich is the new poor! (or something like that). Is God for or against prosperity? This verse clearly is a prayer for it. But is prosperity all about the bottom line? Bible prosperity is much more than money. The word Prosper comes from two words meaning “successful journey.” The idea is that life is a journey from birth to death, and prosperity is the successful navigation of that path. Prosperity included good health, peace, a clear conscience, joy, right beliefs, right thinking, wise choices… it encompassed health, strength and prosperity in every area of life, not just financial. It doesn’t make sense to be rich and unhappy. That is not prosperous. It doesn’t make sense to be wealthy and wicked. That is corruption not prosperity. It doesn’t make sense to be loaded and mentally unstable. Prosperity is an all inclusive check up of the whole man or the whole woman. And, it is possible to be broke and still be prosperous! Prosperity does not depend on money! It depends on the soul. So why not do a prosperity check up on your life to see whether you are an all around millionaire, or just a scrooge! How is your mental health? Do you think healthy thoughts or are there some mental ailments that drag you down. Is your mind and heart at peace or are you struggling with anxiety and fear. Do you have a clear conscience or are there some moral or ethical failures that have infected your life. Is your life characterized by joy or are you a dark and depressed individual. How about your beliefs? Wrong living always comes from wrong beliefs, just as prosperous living comes from right beliefs. Do your beliefs line up with God’s? And let’s throw in right thinking here. Has your mind been transformed to think God’s thoughts about yourself, others and the world around you? And then there are your choices. Do you make prosperous choices, or are your choices destroying your world. And don’t forget wise money management! Are you handling your money God’s way. Listen, you need to take care of yourself if you want to be prosperous. If you don’t take care of your soul, and regularly get a check up on every area of your life, you will be dragged down into disappointment and sorrow. Seek biblical prosperity “successful journey” in every area of your life.

Dear Father, I want to be successful in every area of my life. And I know that begins with doing a check up of me. Please fix the broken parts and help me to recharge and refocus and refresh my spirit so that I can reach out and minister to others in a way that is pleasing to you and prosperous! I want to be just like you Jesus.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Numbers 7:1-29; Psalm 81; 1 Corinthians 1

Today is September 4, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. We are doing something of eternal significance. We are redeeming the time. That is one of the basic premises of TWG. We believe that what we do every day is so important that we must do the important things each day. That is why we read the word every Day

Not too much excitement going on around here. We worked on the rental all day and Susan is tuckered out. That about explains the whole day. But the good news is that we are very close to the end! We are doing the little detail things now, like a new light fixture, trim, stovetop… not much left. Susan still has not overcome her sinus infection. Pray for her. Later in the day we went to our Awana Registration. We had a good meeting, but we’d like more kids. If you have some kids that you know of, send them our way! I put a picture of our BBQ on the Blog at http://timewithgod.mypodcast.com. Check it out.

This week’s theme verse is 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

God works in mysterious ways! At least that’s what a lot of people say when they don’t understand His ways. Sometimes the way God does things is downright surprising. His ways are so far above our ways, His plan is so deep and difficult to fathom sometimes that we are baffled. And we are stewards of the mysteries of God! Now what can that mean? A mystery from our perspective is something we have not yet figured out. If we were sleuths in a Nancy Drew Mystery, we would be going from place to place looking for clues to figure out “who done it!” And when we finally figured it out and threw the butler in jail, we would have solved the mystery. In God’s world, He is the sleuth who has already figured out “who done it,” and we are like Watson… “Elementary, my dear Watson.” A Mystery is something previously hidden and now revealed in Christ. It’s like reading the last chapter of the book. God has revealed to us some of the elementary truths of the universe which would remain a mystery unless He explains them to us. So what is this mystery? It is that Heaven is a free gift. We don’t have to earn it; in fact we can not earn it. We can be forgiven and receive this gift though simple faith. It is because of the Death of Christ on the cross, and His Resurrection, that we were granted this mystery. And we are stewards of the mystery. We are like modern day Sherlock Holmes’ going around explaining to the Watsons of the world the elementary mysteries that solve the crime of sin. God has given us an amazing privilege and responsibility. We are stewards of this mystery. Our main management job centers around the Gospel of Christ. It is no longer a mystery to us, and it should not be one to anyone else. See to it!

Dear Father, thank you for revealing yourself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Now I understand the way to you. Now everything is clear, because you have shown it to us. What a wonderful privilege and a great responsibility. Now, Lord help me to be energetic in sharing what I know with others.

Today is September 2, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. This is your invitation to take one step forward every day in your relationship with Christ. We invite you to do something unbelievably radical. We invite you to deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Jesus

I am on vacation, theoretically. Yesterday Susan and I worked on a rental… it really wiped Susan out! We will be there today too. Fortunately it’s a small rental without a lot of needs. But we do have to get a small hide-a-bed for it and a small table and chair. We also ran out to Kyle & Marcia’s for a well attended Labor Day BBQ. That was great fun. Good burgers, dogs, salmon cakes, steak and what great desserts! We shot a little basketball, played several games of horseshoes and whacked some golf balls into the woods.

We are called to be servants of Christ. It’s a voluntary call of the heart, a servant’s heart. We are also called to be stewards. A steward was an officer in charge of managing a household. He could be a servant like Joseph of old, or he could be a hired man. Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his entire household. In a well to do household with a sprawling estate, there might be dozens of servants. Joseph was the administrator. He was the manager, but he wasn’t the owner. One of my first jobs was at Jim’s Sentry Market. Jim was the owner and Hal was the manager. Hal was in charge and we knew it. We did what he said. But Hal was just an employee like everyone else. Jim sat up in the office overlooking the entire store. He crunched numbers and made the big decisions, or just sipped coffee. Who knows what he really did up there! But Hal was down on the floor directing the working men and women and in our store he did some of the work himself. If Jim wanted it done, Hal did it. He may have discussed the pros and cons with Jim, but ultimately Jim was king, and Hal was vassal. That is the way it is with Christ and us. Christ is King, and we are his chamberlains. Our job is to manage the ministry that God has given us. Some of us have more responsibility than others. As the steward of the church, it is my responsibility to manage all the people in it. But every one of us is a steward of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever the talents he has given you to manage, whether ten, five or one, you are accountable to the master at the end of the day. God expects his stewards to manage His affairs His way. It’s His money that you spend. And His time that you waste, or invest. It’s His stuff that you use… cars, houses, and everything else. As steward, God’s going to ask how you used it all for the kingdom of God. There is no “mine” in the Kingdom of God, there is only “his stuff.” It’s all God’s and I am responsible to manage it. So how are you managing God’s stuff? Is His money being used wisely to further the Kingdom? Is His property being used strategically to win people to Christ? Are the talents he gave you being put to their full use? Or are you hiding your light under a bushel. We need to stop thinking like owners, and begin thinking like managers. He is the King and we are His Vassals.

Dear King Jesus. I am your steward. Help me to manage your things in a way that pleases you. I have chosen to quit calling these things my own, and begin to call them
