Today is May 9, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. TWG is a complete turn of events, it is a 180 degree turn around. God is changing us and turning us around as a community. This is not business as usual, this is transforming, this is spiritual, this is essential.
Sometimes I surprise myself by getting my work done on time. I think I got most of it done yesterday! That’s unusual. I must have missed something. I got the bulletin finished. Uploaded several podcasts to the internet. Prepared power point announcements for Sunday and began working on this Sunday’s message… called… oops – I just realized it’s mother’s day Sunday, I have to come up with a different message! Change gears! Rewrite! At least I have a head start on next week! Bill stopped in. He spent considerable time using the backhoe to get our handicapped parking ready. He’s looking for help this Saturday. Mike and Dale were in the new Kitchen finishing up the shelves. Boy do they look great. Dale helped me pick up flowers at Bobs. Bob and I had a great talk about skiing and some good old times. Ken came by to talk about his job. It is going well. The grand kids came in for their daily fix of candy. I love it! And their dentist is going to love it too! And a gal stopped in looking for the Hohn Cemetery on Buckhorn Road. I had no idea there was one. Last evening after work, Shaphen and I went and played tennis… surprisingly he beat me 6 to 2. That was a shock. I’ll get him next time. Then Susan and I spent a quiet evening together . I put an interesting picture of Rochelle, Susan and Marcia working on the storage area on the blog at www.timewithgod.mypodcast.com.
This week’s theme verse is Ephesians 6:14-18 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Put on the full armor of God. We are doing a review of each piece of your armor to capture the essence of how to put it on. With the armor you can stand firm against the onslaught of life’s circumstances and the enemy’s attacks. It will make you a stable and powerful warrior. #6. You grasp the sword of the Spirit. Your Sword. It is your best friend, kept close at all times. You admire the shining short blade. It is beautiful, decorative and effective. The scabbard is also ornamentally decorated with gold and silver engravings of the imperial army of God and it’s King and God, “THE WORD!” Etched beautifully on the sharp edging of the blade is the saying, “SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, QUICK AND POWERFUL.” You slide it quickly into the scabbard with a metallic ring. The spirit of the legionnaires fills your spirit, “I take o, sword the Word of God for my defense! I strike and thrust with every verse as truth that cuts and convicts the heart. I memorize it’s every form and fact to be well versed in the art of war.” #7. Finally, you report to the cohort for orders in Prayer. With every piece of armor in place, you are now ready for battle. You just need to know what your assignment is. You open the door, step into place among the ranks and stand at attention before the Centurion while slapping out a quick salute. You bend one knee and bow your head, “Sir, what orders does my Lord wish for me today? I am at your service.” Silently you listen for guidance and direction. Once given, you snap another smart salute, “Thank you my Lord. I pray that I may be faithful in carrying out Your commands and pledge myself to the protection of Your Kingdom and my fellow legionnaires.” You pivot and turn to go… realizing that Your Lord has committed heavy and important responsibilities for you to carry out. It feels like the Kingdom stands or falls on your faithfulness. As long as you follow orders in unison with the rest of the legion, you are more likely to be protected. If you ignore those orders and wander off on your own, you are vulnerable. As you walk lockstep with your brothers in prayer, you feel invincible. There is not a weapon formed or a temptation that can pierce your armor. So long as you have it on, you’re protected.
Dear Lord. I take o, sword the Word of God for my defense! I strike and thrust with every verse as truth that cuts and convicts the heart. I memorize it’s every form and fact to be well versed in the art of war. What orders do you have for me today? I am at your service. I pray that I may be faithful in carrying out Your every commands and pledge myself to love Your Kingdom and my brothers in the Lord. Thank you for being my Lord.
