Today is May 2, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. TWG is a complete turn of events, it is a 180 degree turn around. God is changing us and turning us around as a community. This is not business as usual, this is transforming, this is spiritual, this is essential.
Yesterday was a typical Thursday except that I was a few hours behind… and I still am. I forgot to publish our Radio broadcast. However that slipped my mind I don’t know. But I did finally get the Discovery Class finished. I’m looking forward to that. I also got the bulletin done. And began working in earnest on Sunday’s message on 1 Timothy… Truth that matters. Gene came in and fixed the ladies bathroom hot water leak. What an awesome blessing! Thanks Gene. The ladies came for their last day of Bible Study and then took off to Sizzler for lunch. I put a group picture of them on the blog at www.timewithgod.mypodcast.com. After a nice dinner at home, I took off to Myrtle Creek for Evangelism Explosion class. We went out and did some follow up visits to a gal who received Christ last week. Pray for Stephanie! And then there were things that go bump in the night. Shaphen stopped in for a night of rest. He’s in need of prayer for a new job.
This week’s theme verse is Ephesians 6:14-18 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Can you imagine going to battle without your helmet to protect your head? I’m thinking that’s a bad idea. A head wound could be debilitating or even fatal. Satan attacks the mind in so many ways. He tries to distract us with the cares of life so that we focus on anything other than our relationship with God. He plays mind games to make us insecure or unhappy. He tries to confuse the mind. If you aren’t careful he can have your mind twisted up tighter than a pretzel. For that we need the helmet of salvation. The assurance of your salvation can give you more relief and hope than anything else in life. Just to know, understand and accept what Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” is relief beyond belief! To have this one thing settled in your heart, “whoever believes in me will NEVER PERISH, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand…” is an enormous source of strength. To come to the place in our spiritual life where you know for certain that “the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable!” will produce in you a strong sense of stability and emotional security. This is your helmet! This one truth will protect you from the blows of the enemy’s sword, or the head shot of his flaming arrows. You can be sure of this: God will always keep His word. He never lies. He never gives up. We are always secure when our security rests on Him. Put on your helmet. Meditate on this truth. “Jesus loves me this I know! For the Bible tells me so!” In the darkness of your darkest nights, your hope of eternal life will be the thing that will carry you through. Depend on it.
Dear Loving Heavenly Father: Thank you for the promise of ETERNAL life! Just that one word explains it all. I thank you that you love me with an everlasting love! Your promises are so precious to me. I can do nothing but break down and weep for joy because you care for me so much. I will put on my helmet and let your salvation save me, not only from an eternity in the lake of fire, but the mind games of the enemy. Make me stable Lord… I know it begins at the beginning of hope. Once I have my salvation settled, your hope will permeate my life. Bring it on.
