This week’s theme verse. Hebrews 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
What’s the big deal about church attendance anyway? Can’t you do your own worship thing wherever you are? And then you don’t have to worry about church politics, bad singing, people you don’t like and long repetitious sermons. I suppose we might want to think about church the same way we think about Eternal Life. Most people think (without thinking it through) that they can get to God their way. “I did it my way.” That’s like a child informing his parents how he is going to be raised. God is the one who sets the way “I am the way” – the only way. Any other way won’t get you there. So you want to worship God “your way?” God has the right to tell us how to worship Him “HIS way.” If we reject his way and offer another way, it’s no less than a slap in His face, not worship at all. While there are other reasons we do church, the first is that the Church is God’s plan for your corporate worship life. Elementary.
Dear Father: I want to obey your plan for my life. I know one of those plans is that I “do church.” Right now I make a commitment to be faithful to you in corporate worship as you have been faithful to me. I am sorry for trying to do your things my way. I realize now that it is a matter of wills and I want your will to be done, not mine. I want your kingdom to come, not mine. Forgive me for trying to worship you selfishly. I want to worship you in spirit and truth.
