Spirit filled souls are ablaze for God, they love with a love that glows, they serve with a faith that kindles, they serve with a devotion that consumes, they hate sin with a fieriness that burns, they rejoice with a joy that radiates. Love is perfected in the fire of God.

I am so amazed at the true nature of God. One thing that has been ringing though my head is that God loves me because he loves me. There is nothing I can do to make him love me. I don’t want to just feel his love, I want to know it.

Love is kindled in a flame, that is the love of god. Ardency is its life, flame is the air which the true Christian experience breathes. it feeds on fire, it can withstand anything rather than a feeble flame, but when the atmosphere around is frigid or lukewarm it dies, it chills starves to it’s vitals. True prayer must be a flame.

The reason why many fail in battle is because they wait until the hour of battle, the reason why others succeed in battle is because they have gained their victory on their knees. Anticipate your battles. Fight them on your knees long before they come

We are half hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

Sound… doctrine is useless if it is not accompanied by a holy life. It is worse than useless: it does positive harm. It is despised by keen sighted and shrewd men of the world, as an unreal and hollow thing, and brings religion into contempt.

Revival is a renewed conviction of sin and repentance, followed by an intense desire to live in obedience to God. It is giving up one's will to God in deep humility.

God has one destiny for mankind - holiness! His one aim is the production of saints. God is not an eternal blessing- machine for men. He did not come to save men out of pity. He came to save men because He had created them to be holy.

Perhaps if there were more of that intense distress for souls that leads to tears, we should more frequently see the results we desire. Sometimes it may be that while we are complaining of the hardness of the hearts of those we are seeking to benefit, the hardness of our own hearts and our feeble apprehension of the solemn reality of eternal things may be the true cause of our want of success.
